TEST DRIVE MEME #1.

OPTIONS:

WAKING UP

You wake up in a studio in an apartment building that's got windows all boarded up. You remember being sick, you remember dying, and you probably can't believe this is the afterlife. If you head out into the hall you'll see that others are heading out too, looking just as confused as you are. All of you died, most of you of the same thing. If you head down to the front office, you'll meet a native resident who will explain in brief that you're in Aqora, a settlement living among the undead and that people like you show up every so often. You'll be given an informational pamphlet, a shitty cell phone, and a walkie. Then you'll be expected to figure it out. No one has time to hold your hand.

EXPLORING

Miscellaneous things here: shops and restaurants turned into places to live, apartments full of people living day to day, the main focus (the library) being the hub where people come to learn and children go to school. Because school never ends, even in the apocalypse. Feel free to buddy up with other newcomers to figure out what the hell is going on.

OR, say you've been here a while. It's time to figure out how to get more supplies! Let's go on a supply run. You'll just be heading out past the barricades to start, and you'll have to dig through buildings to try and find things. If you're lucky, maybe you'll hit a cache. If you're unlucky, you'll find too many undead to fight. No one goes out alone though, so hopefully your partner can help.

"NETWORK"

Someone has set up a rudimentary network using the nearest cell towers. You can communicate with others in the area but only via voice and text. Anything further out is voice only via walkies. You can have a username or leave it blank.

Have fun, campers.

Assumin' no other groups are around and got the same idea as us.

[Daryl studied the map, frowning, fingers tracing the streets to the destination.]

This'll take us a couple days to get to on foot once we get outta the the area that's already cleared. And if we're hitting up a news station for panels on the trucks, we'll have to head into one of them underground parking lots. We'll need more than two people for it. Ain't no way we're clearing a lot out by ourselves.

[He had to assume any underground lots would be crawling with the dead. Couldn't count on luck helping them out with that. On the bright side they could probably drive any trucks they found back and siphon whatever gas they found in the other vehicles.]

Might have to wait for this 'til after the next supply run. Make sure we got the people and those in charge are up for letting us take that many weapons out.

A couple of days, really? [ Steve peers at the legend, trying to figure out the distance. The city can't be that big, surely... except. It looks like it is. He rakes his bangs out of his eyes and frowns. ]

Shit. We'll need weapons and tools, and more people willing to go that far out. None of that's gonna be easy to get.

[ Maybe it's a reckless undertaking. He still wants to do it. He wants to be doing something useful. What else is the point in winding up here, if he can't help? ]

I've been out on two runs so far, and they were both pretty quiet, maybe we can get away with four or five people...? You've done this kinda thing before Aqora, right? Too many seems like asking for trouble.

It ain't just the distance. It's what'll be in our way. We ain't cleared through that area. We don't know where the pile-ups are gonna be, the work arounds for any we can't clear, where herds are gathered or trapped or can be trapped to make 'em less a threat to us. We could walk there in six hours or so if there weren't nothin' in the way. Cain't assume there ain't.

[Daryl traced his finger down one of the paths before turning the map back to face the kid.]

Run like this, Five to seven people. All of 'em better know what they're doin' too. You wouldn't be one of the one's I'd pull for it. Use the time we're gonna need to plan this to get more experience in the quieter zones.
