TEST DRIVE MEME #1.

OPTIONS:

WAKING UP

You wake up in a studio in an apartment building that's got windows all boarded up. You remember being sick, you remember dying, and you probably can't believe this is the afterlife. If you head out into the hall you'll see that others are heading out too, looking just as confused as you are. All of you died, most of you of the same thing. If you head down to the front office, you'll meet a native resident who will explain in brief that you're in Aqora, a settlement living among the undead and that people like you show up every so often. You'll be given an informational pamphlet, a shitty cell phone, and a walkie. Then you'll be expected to figure it out. No one has time to hold your hand.

EXPLORING

Miscellaneous things here: shops and restaurants turned into places to live, apartments full of people living day to day, the main focus (the library) being the hub where people come to learn and children go to school. Because school never ends, even in the apocalypse. Feel free to buddy up with other newcomers to figure out what the hell is going on.

OR, say you've been here a while. It's time to figure out how to get more supplies! Let's go on a supply run. You'll just be heading out past the barricades to start, and you'll have to dig through buildings to try and find things. If you're lucky, maybe you'll hit a cache. If you're unlucky, you'll find too many undead to fight. No one goes out alone though, so hopefully your partner can help.

"NETWORK"

Someone has set up a rudimentary network using the nearest cell towers. You can communicate with others in the area but only via voice and text. Anything further out is voice only via walkies. You can have a username or leave it blank.

Have fun, campers.

No problem. It's one of the perks. Has it been that long? I'll slip you one next time we get some in.

[ he's grinning a little - the truth is he gives out way more than he keeps and 'don't tell anyone where you got it' would be stupid even if someone did see gaju with it because no one would even question where he got it. they would just know. ]

As for the medication in that building, I want you to bring me all of it. Anything you find. Don't bother taking the time to sort it, I can do it here by the markings on the pills if they're not in the bottles.

You got it, doc!

[ Well, that outing had turned out to be way more worth it than he'd originally thought. ]

I'm not real good at sorting through that stuff, anyway. I'll bring an extra bag next time and shove 'em all in.

[ He looked thoughtful for a moment as he balled up the wrapper and squirreled it away in a pocket. ]

Only thing with pills and so on is they rattle around. So I guess I'll probably pick 'em up last. You know, in case.

[ Right, in case. Gaju still felt it was surreal to mention the word 'zombies' in casual conversation; everyone knew they didn't exist at least until they did. ]

That sounds perfect.

[ he really does sound very pleased by the outcome - it's helpful no matter how many or few there are. sometimes a single pill can make the difference between life and death. it sounds dramatic but in a world without easy access to medications, it's patently true.

at gaju's comment about the sound and picking up the pills last, he nods. ]

It's smart that way. Any creams or liquid medications too, if you can. Even if they're expired they can be of some use. This is really, really helpful.

[ Gaju blinked in surprise. ]

Really? I thought those'd be the first things to run out of juice. But I guess we can't be picky, huh?

[ He lowered his voice. ]

So, um... hey, is it true? About when ya die, I mean? Like, I know what they say, but...

[ But he'd never actually seen a living person expire (without the express help of a zombie) and come back to life. What kind of sense did that make? ]
