TEST DRIVE MEME #1.

OPTIONS:

WAKING UP

You wake up in a studio in an apartment building that's got windows all boarded up. You remember being sick, you remember dying, and you probably can't believe this is the afterlife. If you head out into the hall you'll see that others are heading out too, looking just as confused as you are. All of you died, most of you of the same thing. If you head down to the front office, you'll meet a native resident who will explain in brief that you're in Aqora, a settlement living among the undead and that people like you show up every so often. You'll be given an informational pamphlet, a shitty cell phone, and a walkie. Then you'll be expected to figure it out. No one has time to hold your hand.

EXPLORING

Miscellaneous things here: shops and restaurants turned into places to live, apartments full of people living day to day, the main focus (the library) being the hub where people come to learn and children go to school. Because school never ends, even in the apocalypse. Feel free to buddy up with other newcomers to figure out what the hell is going on.

OR, say you've been here a while. It's time to figure out how to get more supplies! Let's go on a supply run. You'll just be heading out past the barricades to start, and you'll have to dig through buildings to try and find things. If you're lucky, maybe you'll hit a cache. If you're unlucky, you'll find too many undead to fight. No one goes out alone though, so hopefully your partner can help.

"NETWORK"

Someone has set up a rudimentary network using the nearest cell towers. You can communicate with others in the area but only via voice and text. Anything further out is voice only via walkies. You can have a username or leave it blank.

Have fun, campers.

I'll have a bow.

[Daryl shut his phone off and checked the bow he'd been given by the armory guy over one last time, then headed out. He was still in the clothes he'd been given by the Doc. Only set he had so it probably stank by this point. But so did most everyone's.

Still, while he was out, he hoped he could find a couple changes that actually fit. Maybe a mechanics jumpsuit. Something loose enough in the shoulders he could move freely.

He stopped at the gate and waited. Since he didn't know what Carey looked like, he just had to make himself easy to spot.]

[ carey is already at the gate when daryl arrives. he’s signing his name on the log sheet with a quick scribble before he checks the time on his wristwatch. it’s 20 minute till 10 a.m. jotting it down, he is about to hand the clipboard back to one of the security guards when his eyes land on a shaggy haired man holding a crossbow. never seen him before, so he’s going to take it that’s his volunteer. tucking the log underneath his arm, he heads over to him, his expression impassive. ]

Are you Daryl? [ he offers the clipboard to him as he introduces himself. ] I’m Carey. [ for one of the leaders in aqora, he’s relatively young. 24, to be exact. lean, muscular build hidden beneath loose fitting clothes and an almost permanent black smudge on one of his cheeks. he has on a simple smokey blue t-shirt and navy blue jeans with a curved blade attached to his back and a handheld gun holstered at his side. ]

Have you been out there yet? [ he nods towards the exit. ]

[Daryl took the clipboard and signed it with a scribbled "DD", then handed it back. He looked the kid up and down, assessing him and figuring he probably knew what he was doing. Then shook his head.]

First time in L.A.

Well, congrats, you're going to get a taste of the red zone. There's a scrapyard right between the border of Mid-Wilshire and Mid-City.

[ he gestures for daryl to follow him as he heads over to a truck parked near the entrance. ]

Most of the good junkyards are east of the city, but they're all either in red or black zones. Jags wants to focus on going up north, but I'd rather concentrate our efforts in clearing a path to East L.A.

[ climbing into the vehicle, carey inserts the key and turns on the ignition before he reaches into his back pocket to pull out a slip of paper. he hands it over to him. ]

This is the list. Take another look at it. Best case scenario, I find everything I need today, so I won't have to make a second trip out.

[Daryl took the list and ran through it again. Nothing new had been put on it. He nodded and handed it back as he got into the passenger seat. Once he was in, he slouched down and brought his knees up against the dashboard. Not quite enough room to stretch them out, but he could at least feel a little comfortable while he watched the world pass by.]

You ain't worried the engine'll draw more of 'em out than the two of us can handle? Lot of buildings, not a lot of sight lines.

I got a parking spot. [ he literally has a parking spot ] We'll go there first and then make the rest of the way on foot.
